Among the highlights of this year’s meeting will be presentations on health disparities, self-management strategies for patients, incorporating the new guidelines into practice, air quality as an issue with respect to respiratory health, and school-based asthma interventions that are successful. This unique meeting brings asthma stakeholders from across Texas together to discuss cutting edge evidenced based treatment and management strategies for asthma.

Mark Netoskie - medical director at Humana will share the Humana asthma experience
Julie Sizemore - will share how Nurtur uses interviewing techniques as part of their disease management program
Glenn Flores - Will discuss health disparities and chronic disease
Jane Brotanek - will share with us about cultural competency & the importance of knowing your audience
Jay Shannon - will share how to build an asthma friendly practice.
Victoria Ford - former health care policy adviser to Governor Rick Perry will discuss how to craft our legislative message
Chris Wagner - certified asthma educator will discuss the importance of the certification process
Diane Rhodes & Richard Middleton - will share the NEISD experience and how they have reduced the burden of asthma in their district
Yadira Rivera-Sanchez - will share the ICATA study with us
Tom Kallstrom - representing AARC will discuss how we organize to work toward reimbursement for asthma education
Mark Berry - representing the EPA will give an overview of programs addressing indoor air quality
Casey Blass & Sarah Kirk - representing the Texas Department of State Health Services will give an overview of the State's efforts to reduce the burden of asthma and a data overview of asthma in Texas
Local Coalition representatives will share what is happening in your community to address asthma.
Additionally, the strategies to address asthma in 2009 will be identified.
